Engineer (m/f/d) for Design Engineering and Student Support

Role overview

Schirmer Maschinen GmbH is looking for an engineer to strengthen its design engineering team and provide support to practice-integrated students in mechanical engineering. In this position, you will guide projects from the initial concept through to production readiness, keeping customer specifications as well as timeline, quality, and cost targets in view. You will work with CAD and comparable systems to carry out calculations, simulations, and technical drawings. In addition, you will mentor students during their practical phases, especially with practical projects and final theses.

Key responsibilities

• Design standard modules and adapt them to individual customer needs.
• Create special-purpose solutions required for specific projects.
• Develop new concepts and improve existing profiling/processing solutions.
• Coordinate with electrical design and support assembly and commissioning from a construction perspective.
• Develop complete line layouts.
• Provide technical supervision to practice-integrated mechanical engineering students during practical phases and support them with practice projects and thesis work.

Profile and requirements

• Completed master’s degree in mechanical engineering.
• Strong working knowledge of CAD systems, especially Inventor, as well as PDM and ERP systems.
• Solid technical understanding, particularly in engineering mechanics.
• Ideally some initial experience in a similar position.
• Good communication skills and enjoyment in sharing knowledge; prior experience mentoring students is a plus.
• Creativity, initiative, and a strong focus on quality.
