Core Active Winding Design Engineer - Power Transformer

About the role

Hitachi Energy is looking for a Mechanical/Electrical Core, Active Part, and Winding Design Engineer to join its Transformers business unit in the Global Engineering Center at Vadodara. In this role, you will contribute to the design and development of power transformer solutions that align with customer expectations, engineering standards, and business goals. You will work closely with teams across functions and geographies to deliver designs that are reliable, efficient, and aligned with best practices.

What you'll do

• Join an international engineering and design group focused on power transformers up to the 345 kV class for multiple markets.
• Carry out internal transformer design work, including cleats and lead arrangements, while staying within factory constraints and following checklists and guidelines based on IEEE, IEC, and IS standards.
• Apply knowledge of transformer mechanics, thermal behavior, dielectric performance, short-circuit performance, and sound performance in design work.
• Coordinate design tasks with manufacturing sites across the global factory network.
• Take part in internal reviews of design concepts.
• Work effectively with technical teams across different regions and time zones.
• Contribute to team collaboration and relationship-building across the organization.
• Follow Hitachi Energy's safety and integrity principles by taking responsibility for your actions and supporting colleagues and the business.
• Ensure that all work complies with relevant internal procedures, external regulations, and engineering guidelines.

Required background

• A B.E. or B.Tech degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering is required.
• Experience of 4 to 10 years in internal design for oil-filled power transformers, covering core, active part, and winding design; candidates with greater experience are also welcome.
• Hands-on familiarity with CAD tools and at least one 3D modeling platform is essential; knowledge of Creo is an added advantage.
• Solid understanding of transformer design fundamentals, mechanical calculations, dielectrics, clearance and creepage, basic layouts, and cleats/lead arrangements.
• Good working knowledge of IS, IEC, IEEE, and Canadian standards.
• Experience in cleats and leads design, as well as tank and external component design, will be considered a plus.
• Exposure to simulation tools or software development is beneficial.
• Comfortable using Microsoft Office and related productivity tools.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate with technical teams globally.
• Team-building and networking abilities are preferred.
• Excellent spoken and written English are necessary.
