Role Overview
This is a civilian, non-sworn role in the Sheriff’s Department focused on supporting the day-to-day operation of the county jail at an entry level. The position centers on observing inmate activity, helping maintain order and policy compliance, protecting the safety of correctional staff, and managing access to restricted spaces through electronic security and communication systems. It also includes processing inmates and visitors.
Key Duties
The Controller I supports jail operations by monitoring inmate behavior and movement, upholding security and discipline standards, and helping ensure correction officers can work safely. The role also involves controlling entry to secure areas, inmates, and visitors using door and communication systems, along with completing intake and visitor-processing tasks.
Education and Experience
A high school diploma or GED is required, along with relevant experience or a clear ability to perform the duties of the job. Comparable combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Availability and Background Requirements
Applicants must be able to work rotating shifts and remain available for on-call needs. A successful background screening is required, including an NCIC check, and candidates must not have any significant criminal history.
Compensation and Benefits
This full-time position pays $20.78 per hour, depending on experience, and includes a broad benefits package.
