Role overview
FedEx is looking for a self-driven Heavy Goods Vehicle Maintenance Technician to join its Engineering Team at the Vehicle Maintenance Unit in Maidstone. In this position, you will help keep the company’s vehicles and trailers safe, dependable, and road-legal by carrying out planned servicing and maintenance work.

Working hours and shift pattern
This role is for 40 hours per week. The shift pattern rotates from Monday to Friday, with shifts running from 06:00 to 14:30 and from 14:00 to 22:30.
Pay details
Base pay is £21.70 per hour. Additional premia are paid for certain hours worked: £2.33 per hour between 7:00 pm and 10:00 pm, and £2.82 per hour between 10:00 pm and 6:00 am.
Key duties
- Keep signed service and inspection documentation completed and up to date.
- Fill out defect reports and related paperwork so legal obligations are met.
- Get vehicles and trailers ready for annual MOT checks, aiming for a first-time pass standard.
- Carry out occasional repairs, diagnose faults, and fix vehicle issues.
- Use tools, plant, and supporting equipment safely and correctly at all times.
- Maintain high standards of tidiness and carry out other reasonable tasks assigned by management.
What the employer is looking for
- Fully trained technician with the relevant licences or vocational training, such as an LGV C&E licence (Class 1).
- City & Guilds Parts 1 and 2, or an equivalent qualification in commercial vehicle repair.
- Good working knowledge of automotive equipment and testing or troubleshooting tools.
- Physical ability to lift and move heavy vehicle parts and components.
- Experience with welding and basic direct-current electrical fault finding.
- A valid driving licence.
- Prior experience in a similar maintenance role.
