System Administrator, M-PESA Application Support

Role overview

This position is responsible for end-to-end operational support of the M-Pesa core platform and the digital channels connected to it. The role focuses on keeping the mobile app running smoothly, handling incidents and user issues, working closely with development and stakeholder teams, and helping ensure a reliable mobile money experience.

What you'll handle

• Manage the M-Pesa core systems and related operational activities.
• Oversee the availability and performance of the M-Pesa mobile application on Android and iOS.
• Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve customer-reported defects, crashes, and application issues promptly.
• Review app analytics and crash logs through Firebase or comparable monitoring tools.
• Follow the incident, problem, and change management process with internal teams and external MPA stakeholders.
• Maintain system security controls and operational safeguards.
• Support business continuity planning and execution.
• Assist with mini app development, implementation, and ongoing support.
• Provide support for all M-Pesa-related initiatives, including MPA and local projects.
• Deliver product support for M-Pesa services.

What you need

• Hands-on knowledge of Unix, Linux distributions such as RHEL and SUSE, and Windows environments.
• Experience with relational databases, including Oracle, GaussDB, and MySQL.
• Understanding of mobile security practices and protections.
• Clear and effective communication skills.
• Working familiarity with Android and iOS ecosystems, mobile app structure, and APIs.
• A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or an equivalent qualification.
• Ability to build and sustain strong relationships with key stakeholders.
• Prior understanding of mobile money platforms, especially M-Pesa, is an advantage.
