Role Overview

Teva is hiring a Site Microbiologist for its Waterford site in Ireland. This is a permanent, full-time onsite position. The role is centered on leading the microbiology laboratory, shaping the site’s microbiology approach, and supporting the delivery of operational and quality goals.

The person in this role will oversee the full microbiology team, review team performance, and serve as the primary point of contact for microbiology-related matters across the site.

Key Duties

  • Own microbiology-related queries and investigations across the site.
  • Coordinate with senior management on matters involving the microbiology team.
  • Continuously plan, create, and roll out projects and systems that improve the microbiology function.
  • Act as the site specialist for all microbiology topics.
  • Support and help drive the site contamination control strategy in line with Annex 1 expectations.
  • Coach, develop, and train microbiology analysts to maintain strong standards.
  • Provide internal and external customer service while meeting quality expectations, Teva best practices, and cost-control goals.
  • Ensure operational timelines are achieved and batches are prepared when required.
  • Put in place GMP-compliant, cost-efficient systems that keep microbiology work aligned with Teva standards, cGMP, health and safety, best practices, and environmental requirements.
  • Prepare the team to successfully support audits and inspections.

Required Background

Applicants must hold a third-level qualification in Microbiology.

The ideal candidate will bring extensive leadership experience in a busy microbiology laboratory within the pharmaceutical sector, along with strong technical knowledge of regulated microbiological methods and site contamination control practices.

Technical Knowledge Needed

  • Practical knowledge of USP, Ph. Eur., and JP harmonised microbiological methods, including method verification and development.
  • Deep understanding of microbiology and laboratory techniques used in pharma.
  • Familiarity with steam sterilisation and microbiological media.
  • Experience with environmental control, routine monitoring, and method validation.
  • Understanding of microorganisms, bioburden, contamination control, and the risks linked to non-sterile inhalation products.
  • Working knowledge of PW systems and microbial control.
  • Knowledge of microbial identification methods.
  • Good grasp of contamination control strategy and Annex 1 requirements.
