Ship Load Planner

Role Overview

Amentum is hiring a Ship Load Planner to support a specialized U.S. Navy program operating from Diego Garcia. The role is centered on building precise stowage plans, coordinating marine cargo movements, and making sure vessel loading activities are safe, efficient, and fully compliant with applicable standards.

Core Responsibilities

• Create and update accurate cargo and container stowage plans that improve loading and unloading efficiency while staying within operational and safety limits.
• Work closely with shipping agents, port authorities, stevedores, and logistics teams to keep cargo movement on schedule.
• Partner with vessel captains and marine terminal teams to confirm stowage needs and support vessel stability, safety, and seaworthiness.
• Review freight documentation to confirm cargo sizes, weights, and special handling needs before placing items in the stow plan.
• Use ship loading software to build, manage, and refine load plans and stowage instructions that make the best use of vessel capacity.
• Carry out inspections to confirm loading activities follow the approved plan and that equipment and personnel safety standards are met.
• Respond quickly to issues during vessel operations and adjust load plans when changes or unexpected problems occur.
• Document cargo-handling activity through reports covering load plans, discrepancies in materials, and operational observations.
• Maintain compliance with safety rules and with local, government, and international shipping regulations throughout cargo handling.
• Support strong coordination and communication among all parties involved in shipping and pier operations.

Minimum Requirements

• Between 1 and 3 years of relevant experience in ship load planning, maritime logistics, materials handling, or vessel operations.
• High school diploma or an equivalent qualification.
• A valid passport and the ability to travel internationally are required.
• Passport validity must extend to at least one year from the hiring date.
• Ability to operate ship stowage planning software.
• Must be able to pass contract medical requirements and continue meeting them throughout deployment.
• Ability to obtain and keep required facility credentials or authorization.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in an austere OCONUS setting with a multinational workforce.
• Valid country driver’s license along with a passport.
• Country visa, where required under the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide.
• Background in ship loading, cargo coordination, or maritime logistics.
• Familiarity with international standards and regulations, including IMO and ISPS Code requirements.
• Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving ability for predicting and resolving stowage issues.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and ship planning tools such as CASP, MACS3, or similar systems.

The role also carries broader responsibilities around workplace safety, quality, and adherence to procedures. Employees are expected to help maintain a safe working environment, complete required training, take part in emergency response duties as needed, and contribute to safety committees or teams. They must also follow the company’s quality policy, satisfy customer expectations, and comply with all relevant quality management and customer satisfaction requirements. In addition, workers are expected to understand and follow the operational, safety, quality, and environmental procedures and policies that apply to the job.
