Role overview
This position is responsible for overseeing shift operations in the offsite and utilities area at the Jamnagar plant. The role focuses on safe execution, stable operations, coordination across teams, and timely response to abnormal situations.
Key responsibilities
- Drive the use of workplace safety and waste-management practices across the field.
- Take charge of incident command and control until the SSM arrives during ERCP events.
- Lead shift team discussions and prepare the action plan for the day’s work.
- Check and approve permits for critical activities, ensuring field execution follows the approved conditions.
- Track shift-wise usage of raw materials and utilities.
- Monitor process readings and equipment health, and troubleshoot issues to keep the plant running smoothly.
- Study important trends and alarm summaries, and verify plant load variation status.
- Use the OMPro platform effectively in day-to-day operations.
- Make sure SOPs and SOCs are being followed consistently.
- Lead the team through safe start-up, shutdown, and emergency response, with a target of zero flaring.
- Join plant rake-up meetings and brief the shift team during SSS for situational awareness at the start of shift.
- Point out any parameter deviations that could affect product quality.
- Coordinate with maintenance teams to speed up both planned and unplanned maintenance work.
- Oversee process and product improvement trials carried out in the plant.
- Identify learning and development needs for panel and field operators.
Education and experience
The role requires a degree in Chemical Engineering, B.Sc., or M.Sc. Candidates with a degree should have at least 3 years of experience as a shift engineer. Candidates with a diploma along with B.Sc. or M.Sc. should have 5 years of experience as a shift engineer.
Preferred knowledge
Applicants should have a basic understanding of unit operations. Exposure to chiller systems, cooling towers, thermal heaters, demineralized water generation, de-ionized water generation packages, multistage compression, and distillation processes is considered desirable.
