Role Overview
This position is based at the Mumbai General Office and sits within a regional product development function spanning Asia and Africa. The role calls for strong technical depth, quick learning, and the ability to turn consumer understanding into product ideas that create clear value for Indian consumers. The work covers the entire journey from early concept development through in-market tracking.
Team Environment
You will be part of a Mumbai-based team and will report to an R&D manager. The group includes functional and technical specialists and works closely with sales, marketing, analytics, GPS, manufacturing, quality, procurement, and other partners across the business.
What Success In This Role Looks Like
Success will depend on combining technical evidence, consumer acceptance data, and sensory findings to arrive at strong product recommendations. The right candidate will be able to manage consumer and technical qualification activities effectively and help bring new products successfully to market.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, run, and interpret consumer insight studies and claims-test outcomes.
- Translate consumer needs into new approaches by working with cross-functional teams.
- Work with technologists to build and evaluate prototypes.
- Summarize research findings, technical observations, and recommendations in a clear and concise way.
- Guide technical teams through qualification of new products and packaging.
Required Qualifications
- Strong English communication skills, both spoken and written, with the ability to connect across countries and cultures.
- Excellent interpersonal ability, including the capacity to influence and lead others.
- Solid technical grounding, especially in consumer and product research.
- Comfort working in a matrixed, collaborative environment with leadership and teamwork.
- Good business understanding along with sensitivity to consumer needs.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize well, and stay effective in a fast-moving setting.
- M.Sc. or M.Tech from a top university with 3 to 5 years of relevant experience, or a PhD in Science or Engineering from a top university with 1 to 2 years of relevant experience.
- Deep knowledge of consumer testing, insight generation, communication, demonstrations, claims, and product innovation.
- Strong problem-solving ability with the capability to identify issues and put durable fixes in place.
- Leadership and influencing strength across different organizational levels.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across functions and regions.
- Willingness to travel within India and internationally as needed.
