Role overview
Sobeys is hiring sanitation workers for its new British Columbia Central Kitchen in Delta. This full-time onsite role is focused on keeping the facility clean, sanitary, and ready for production while helping maintain a safe and efficient workplace.
Location: 7560 Beedie Way, Unit 115, Delta, BC V4G 1C2 / 5282 BC Central Kitchen, Delta, British Columbia, Canada.
Pay: $20.00 per hour.
Travel: 0–10%.
Important access note: The site is not reachable by public transit, so dependable personal transportation is required.
Responsibilities
You will handle routine and scheduled sanitation tasks across the site, including daily, weekly, and monthly work listed in sanitation reports. The position also involves cleaning production equipment, machinery, utensils, floors, walls, drains, and other facility areas; taking equipment apart and putting it back together for deep cleaning when needed; completing records accurately; checking work areas and equipment for readiness; following food safety and sanitation standards; using PPE; supporting waste handling and recycling; and carrying out other assigned tasks such as removing garbage, organic waste, cardboard, and organizing empty chemical containers.
Required qualifications
The ideal candidate should have basic reading, writing, and math skills, usually gained through high school or an equivalent level of education. You must be able to lift 10–15 kilograms, work with cleaning chemicals and high-pressure hoses, read and understand English, and adapt to multiple tasks. Manual dexterity, mechanical aptitude, and problem-solving ability are important. Prior WHMIS knowledge is considered an advantage.
Work environment and conditions
This role involves wet, cold, and humid conditions ranging from 1–4°C, exposure to loud noise, and working around hot water that can create slippery or foggy surfaces. The work is physically demanding and may involve lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, standing for long periods, kneeling, and climbing ladders for cleaning.
Tools and equipment
You will need steel toe/heel rubber boots in good condition with proper tread, a hairnet, clean smock, hearing protection, rubber gloves, arm sleeves, safety hat when required, safety goggles or glasses, and rain gear for top and bottom. The role also uses high-pressure hoses and industrial cleaning chemicals.
