Safety and Security Engineer

Role Overview

Baraya Extended Care is looking for a Safety and Security Officer to help protect residents, employees, and property within a rehabilitation and long-term care environment. The position focuses on access monitoring, enforcement of safety standards, incident handling, and readiness for emergencies, while supporting a calm and compliant setting for everyone on campus.

Core Scope

In this role, you will oversee the safety of the facility by keeping an eye on entry points, surveillance systems, and perimeter security. You will handle incident response, use de-escalation techniques when needed, manage traffic and crowd flow during activities, and work with local emergency services when situations require it. The job also includes conducting risk reviews, safety inspections, and site walk-throughs to identify hazards and recommend corrective steps. You will support visitor screening, badge control, and staff training on safety procedures, fire response, and evacuation planning. Close coordination with clinical and facilities teams is expected to help maintain safe movement for patients and residents, transport security, and compliance with privacy requirements. You will also need to keep budget awareness in mind and prepare reports on security events, asset protection, and the overall effectiveness of safety programs.

Education, Certifications, and Experience

The preferred background includes a bachelor’s degree in safety engineering or a related discipline. NEBOSH, IOSH, and CSMS certifications are required or strongly preferred. Candidates should bring at least 4 years of experience in security, safety, or emergency management, ideally in healthcare or a similar environment. Experience working with access control systems, CCTV, incident documentation, and safety drills is an added advantage.

Skills and Professional Knowledge

This position calls for solid knowledge of incident command practices, de-escalation methods, and basic first aid or CPR, with certification being preferred. Strong observation skills, risk evaluation ability, and practical problem-solving are important. You should also be comfortable communicating clearly, resolving conflict, and delivering service in a professional, helpful manner. The role requires the ability to write incident reports, maintain security records, and support readiness for audits and regulations. Familiarity with safety management tools, badge and access systems, and basic IT use is also needed. Fluency in both Arabic and English, spoken and written, is essential.

Responsibilities

• Keep the facility safe and secure by watching access points, CCTV, and alarm systems.
• Respond quickly to incidents, disturbances, and emergencies, and coordinate with security and clinical teams as needed.
• Carry out routine safety rounds, hazard checks, and drills, then follow through on corrective actions.
• Apply visitor management rules, including screening guests and directing them to the proper locations.
• Document incidents, analyze root causes, and help implement improvements that reduce future risks.
• Partner with facilities, nursing, and administration teams to protect residents, staff, and visitors.
• Maintain accurate incident logs, security records, and documentation needed for audits and inspections.
• Provide respectful, customer-focused support to residents, families, and staff while protecting confidentiality.
• Patrol assigned areas and monitor defibrillator placements, emergency exits, and safety signage.
• Manage access control and visitor checks during shifts, and record any irregular activity.
• Respond to alarms, medical alerts, and security events, and involve emergency services when required.
• Help plan and practice evacuations, and take part in fire safety and disaster preparedness activities.
• Report hazards, theft, or vandalism, and support preventive and corrective measures.
• Protect sensitive information and maintain privacy in all security-related matters.
• Support staff training on safety practices, de-escalation, and emergency response procedures.
• Prepare regular safety and security reports for leadership review.
