Role overview
Larsen & Toubro is seeking a Project Engineering Manager to oversee engineering delivery for substation projects in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The role calls for strong coordination across planning, design, procurement, vendor management, and site execution to keep project milestones on track and ensure technical quality.
Key responsibilities
- Work closely with the Project Planning Manager so engineering outputs stay aligned with the project schedule.
- Run periodic project review meetings and track compliance with timelines.
- Conduct internal coordination reviews to optimize resources, improve allocation, and raise team productivity.
- Examine designs, calculations, and drawings, and make sure submissions are completed on time after customer approvals are obtained.
- Resolve vendor-related queries and help ensure materials reach the project site on schedule.
- Handle multiple priorities at once and deliver several workstreams within required timelines.
- Support inter-discipline managers by resolving design-related issues linked to equipment.
- Check and improve quantity estimates for Bill of Materials submissions.
- Monitor critical design issues and procedural delays, and support site execution teams where needed.
- Drive BIM adoption and implementation across projects.
- Address procurement concerns and support supply chain teams in finalizing orders for vendor engineering.
- Assist with BOQ preparation, review pre-bid proposals and technical submissions, and provide post-tender clarifications to the contracts team after vendor discussions.
- Lead teams made up of Design Leads, Design Engineers, and Draftsmen.
- Review vendor evaluations against client technical specifications.
- Support site execution teams with commercial matters and bill processing.
- Ensure manufacturing clearance is issued through effective communication with suppliers.
- Explain client deliverables clearly and determine project resource needs.
Technical scope
The position requires broad expertise in primary and secondary engineering for substation projects, along with a strong grasp of GIS and AIS substation design up to 765 KV.
The candidate should be proficient in selecting key equipment such as power transformers, reactors, circuit breakers, disconnectors, and instrument transformers. A solid command of substation primary and secondary design is needed, including earthing, lighting, lightning protection, cabling, and coordination across civil, MEP, and instrumentation interfaces. Experience with secondary engineering activities such as schemes, wiring diagrams, SCADA, and control systems is also important.
The role also demands experience in managing projects across different geographies, clients, and utilities, along with an understanding of equipment installation requirements and vendor engineering market conditions.
In addition, the manager must be able to interpret contractual technical requirements and support project teams as required. Strong interviewing ability is also expected.
