Role overview
River Island is looking for a Product Manager to join its Galway store management team. In this position, you will guide, motivate, and support the store team to create an outstanding customer experience and a positive workplace. The role calls for strong product knowledge, a sharp eye for presentation, and a commitment to improving the shopper journey through excellent visual standards and high-quality service.
You will also work closely with the Store Leader to strengthen team capability, keep day-to-day operations running smoothly, and help the store achieve strong sales results, healthy KPI performance, and a motivated team culture.
What you will do
- Create strong product displays and put together attractive, wearable outfit presentations that appeal to customers.
- Maintain consistently high visual merchandising standards with the customer journey at the centre of every decision.
- Take charge of duty management across store service, people, and operational areas when required.
- Encourage the team to make customer experience their top priority in every action.
- Use commercial tools confidently to identify actions that improve store results.
- Support the Store Leader in delivering key performance measures such as sales, stock loss, payroll, conversion, customer feedback, RFID, and people-related targets.
- Help manage store operations and ensure health and safety compliance is maintained.
- Assist in developing the store team so they remain engaged, motivated, high performing, and recognised for their contributions.
What you need to succeed
The ideal person will combine commercial awareness with an interest in fashion and a strong understanding of how to present products effectively. You should enjoy working in a fast-moving retail setting, be comfortable using sales and customer information to guide decisions, and be able to adapt quickly when priorities change.
You will need strong problem-solving ability, excellent attention to detail, and the confidence to lead and inspire others. A proactive, results-driven approach is important, along with the ability to understand customer needs and create a store environment that reflects them.
Things to keep in mind
- This is a busy, high-energy role where priorities can shift quickly depending on sales, customer behaviour, and seasonal demand.
- You will be expected to review customer feedback and sales data to support improvements in store performance.
- Managing a varied team will require strong emotional awareness and people skills.
- The role is practical and hands-on, including product movement, floor resets, layout changes, display adjustments, and stock replenishment.
- Weekend, public holiday, and seasonal working will be part of the role, especially during sales, launches, and promotions.
- Good time management is needed to balance several responsibilities and meet deadlines.
- Building a positive team culture will be an important part of the job.
Benefits and rewards
- 50% staff discount and a uniform allowance.
- Access to savings, discounts, financial guidance, wellbeing support, and related benefits through the Retail Trust.
- Kindness Cupboards in stores to provide basic food and hygiene items when needed, plus support from the Retail Trust.
- Enhanced support for different family situations, including maternity, paternity, adoption, and fertility treatment.
- Give As You Earn participation, a yearly Giver Island day, and matched funding.
- Strong focus on career progression across Retail and Head Office, with training and qualifications available on the job.
- Generous bonus plan and private pension scheme.
- 28 days paid holiday in the UK or 30 days paid holiday in ROI, including Bank Holidays, with the option to purchase extra leave.
