Role overview
This opening is being handled on behalf of a partner company, which will manage the application review and all subsequent hiring steps. The role is for a Product Engineer (Platform) in New Zealand.
This is a high-impact engineering position with a strong product focus, centered on creating and improving core backend systems that support blockchain infrastructure at scale. You will own initiatives from the point of identifying customer needs through solution design, delivery, and ongoing improvement based on real usage. The role blends backend development, platform engineering, and product thinking, with an emphasis on outcomes that can be measured for both the business and the customer. You will work alongside product, DevOps, support, and sales teams to turn complex infrastructure problems into dependable, scalable, and easy-to-use systems. Key accountabilities
- Take responsibility for product work from initial problem discovery and technical design through implementation, release, measurement, and continuous refinement.
- Turn challenging customer and infrastructure issues, including provisioning, reliability, scaling, observability, and cost control, into practical technical plans with clear success measures.
- Build backend services, APIs, internal tooling, and platform features that strengthen the provisioning, operation, and scaling of blockchain infrastructure.
- Spot system bottlenecks, reliability gaps, and operational waste, then lead improvements from concept to production rollout.
- Set and monitor product and engineering metrics such as activation, adoption, provisioning speed, deployment success, incident frequency, and retention.
- Work closely with product, DevOps, support, and sales stakeholders so technical choices stay aligned with customer needs and business goals.
- Apply AI tools across the development workflow to speed up research, design, coding, testing, and analysis while preserving strong quality standards.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of software engineering experience, with substantial backend exposure in product, platform, or distributed systems settings.
- Demonstrated ability to independently lead and deliver complex technical initiatives from discovery to production and iteration.
- A strong product-oriented mindset, with the ability to connect engineering decisions to customer value and business results.
- Practical experience creating and supporting production-ready backend services, APIs, and integrations in a modern programming language.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, including asynchronous and event-driven designs and the trade-offs involved.
- Direct experience with messaging or streaming technologies such as Kafka, NATS, RabbitMQ, or similar tools.
- Experience running services in containerized environments such as Kubernetes, together with CI/CD and observability practices.
- Comfort using AI-assisted development tools while maintaining high engineering discipline and quality expectations.
- Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
