Role overview

The Mechanical Site Engineer will take charge of supervising, coordinating, and carrying out mechanical work at the project location. The role focuses on making sure all installations, testing, and commissioning activities comply with approved drawings, technical specifications, applicable codes, and safety requirements.

Key duties

• Lead and oversee the installation of HVAC, plumbing, fire-fighting, piping, and related mechanical equipment.
• Confirm that work is executed in line with approved drawings, method statements, and project specifications.
• Track day-to-day site progress and help ensure milestones are met on time.
• Coordinate and manage the activities of subcontractors on site.
• Examine mechanical drawings, shop drawings, and material submittals.
• Check quantities and verify that the right materials are delivered and used at the site.
• Carry out inspections and assess the quality of work performed.
• Work with electrical and civil teams, along with the mechanical scope, to prevent clashes.
• Support testing, balancing, and commissioning of mechanical systems.
• Follow site safety rules and HSE procedures at all times.
• Apply quality control processes and inspection and test plans (ITPs).
• Spot non-conformities, report them, and track corrective actions through closure.
• Ensure installation work aligns with industry standards such as ASHRAE, SMACNA, and NFPA.
• Participate in site meetings with contractors, consultants, and client representatives.
• Make sure materials, tools, and equipment are available to keep work moving.
• Coordinate with procurement for timely delivery of mechanical items.
• Escalate technical issues and delays to the project manager when needed.
• Prepare daily and weekly progress updates for the site.
• Keep organized records of inspections, tests, and mechanical activities.
• Help prepare as-built drawings and operations and maintenance documentation.
• Maintain proper records of commissioning outcomes.
• Work closely with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure smooth execution of all mechanical works.
• Support BIM coordination by ensuring site work matches approved models and helps reduce clashes, rework, and delays.
• Stay updated on new industry trends, materials, and technologies to support innovation on projects.
• Carry out any additional tasks assigned by management.

Qualifications and experience

The role calls for a diploma in Mechanical Technology or a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline. Candidates should have at least 6 years of experience in mechanical site execution, preferably in HVAC, plumbing, firefighting, MEP, or similar work.

Required knowledge and capabilities

• Strong understanding of mechanical systems and installation methods.
• Working knowledge of mechanical calculations such as duct sizing, pump head, and pipe sizing.
• Familiarity with commissioning processes and procedures.
• Ability to use AutoCAD, Revit/BIM, and MS Office confidently.
• Solid knowledge of relevant international codes and standards, including IEC, NEC, BS, and local regulations.
• Good communication and problem-solving ability.
• Comfortable working under pressure and meeting tight deadlines.
• Strong eye for detail and a commitment to accuracy and technical quality.
• Clear understanding of project workflows, schedules, and cross-discipline coordination.
• Excellent spoken Arabic and English.
• Strong teamwork, collaboration, organization, and time-management skills.

Working conditions

This is a site-based position. Occasional international travel may be required.
