About ANZ

ANZ is working toward a future where individuals and communities can prosper, guided by a mission to improve the financial wellbeing and long-term sustainability of millions of customers.

About the Role

This Investment Analyst position sits within the Asset Allocation team and focuses on supporting the creation, review, and execution of portfolio positioning across both strategic and tactical asset allocation. The role translates market observations, quantitative work, and investment research into structured, evidence-based decisions for customer portfolios. You will report to the Head of Asset Allocation and collaborate with senior members of the investment team on asset allocation views, portfolio analytics, investment commentary, and governance material that align with the fund’s goals, risk profile, and investment philosophy.

This is a permanent, full-time role based in Auckland. It offers the chance to deepen your investment expertise, learn from experienced portfolio professionals, and contribute to decisions that influence long-term customer outcomes.

What You’ll Do

  • Carry out research on macroeconomic trends, markets, and asset classes to inform investment views, thematic analysis, and portfolio decisions.
  • Assess, track, and identify tactical asset allocation opportunities by reviewing market conditions, valuations, fundamentals, positioning, and behavioural influences.
  • Provide analytical support and data inputs for long-term portfolio design work, including capital market assumptions, scenario analysis, and portfolio construction.
  • Watch market changes, new risks, and investment opportunities to help drive idea generation and support timely portfolio discussions.
  • Build, update, and improve investment models, analytical tools, dashboards, and reporting used for portfolio analysis, risk tracking, and decision support.
  • Produce concise investment reports, presentations, and briefing packs that clearly communicate the team’s views to internal stakeholders.

What You’ll Bring

  • A solid grasp of financial markets, asset classes, macroeconomic drivers, and the factors that influence investment performance.
  • Strong Excel and financial modelling skills, along with comfort handling large, complex datasets; familiarity with Bloomberg, FactSet, Power BI, Python, or R would be an advantage.
  • The ability to interpret performance results, risk exposures, valuations, and market developments to generate investment insights and support portfolio discussions.
  • Background in investment research, portfolio analytics, asset allocation, economics, consulting, or reporting within financial markets or investment management.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present analysis in a concise and well-reasoned manner.
  • Curiosity, strong attention to detail, and the confidence to challenge assumptions constructively in a collaborative setting.
