Role overview
The HR Specialist role at The Home Depot is focused on applying HR policies, procedures, and applicable laws and regulations across core people functions. The position may contribute in areas such as EEO/AAP, staffing, compensation and benefits, training, organizational development, and employee relations. It also includes rolling out company-wide programs, supporting initiatives, and handling project-based work when needed.
Key responsibilities
- Carry out employee relations reviews by gathering facts and conducting investigations.
- Support line managers with MSS-related training and transactional assistance.
- Help the HR Manager deliver leadership training sessions.
- Assist with selecting candidates for leadership roles.
- Support communication and enrollment activities for employee benefits programs.
- Explain corporate policies and provide guidance on call center practices.
Reporting and supervision
This position normally reports to the Human Resources Manager and does not include direct supervisory responsibility.
Travel requirements
The role may require overnight travel, but it is expected to be less than 10% of the time.
Physical requirements
The job is primarily sedentary, with most time spent seated in a comfortable setting. There will usually be chances to move around, and only rarely may light items need to be moved or lifted.
Work environment
This role is based in a comfortable indoor environment, and any undesirable conditions are expected to be infrequent and minor.
Minimum qualifications
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- You must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
Preferred experience
- Background in handling third-party litigation matters.
- Experience representing an employer in unemployment hearings.
- Experience with compensation program administration.
- Experience managing corrective action processes.
- Experience delivering formal classroom training.
- Ability to pass a drug screening, background check, and any required pre-employment tests.
Education
A bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent degree, in a field related to the role is typically required.
Experience and competencies
The role calls for around 2 years of relevant work experience and strengths in computer use, word processing, multitasking, verbal and written communication, employment law awareness, conflict resolution, and structured problem-solving.
