Role overview
This is a senior HR and people leadership position based in Bristol, United Kingdom, with a salary of £60,000 to £65,000 depending on experience. The role is with a well-established healthcare services provider entering a new phase of growth. You will own the people function end to end and help shape how the business develops its culture, hiring, leadership capability, and HR practices.
The organisation has been operating for more than 30 years and supports a range of healthcare-related settings, including care homes, hospices, schools, and the NHS. It is known for a service-led approach and a close, values-based culture grounded in integrity, compassion, and accountability.
Working pattern
Standard hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm. The employer is also open to a reduced schedule such as 9:00am to 3:00pm, with flexibility considered where needed.
What you will do
In this standalone role, you will work closely with the leadership team to create and deliver a people plan that supports business growth. The position combines strategic influence with hands-on delivery, so it suits someone who enjoys both planning and practical execution.
Responsibilities
- Take full responsibility for the HR function and operate independently as the main people lead.
- Work with senior leaders to develop and implement a people strategy that supports growth.
- Manage the full recruitment process, from defining the vacancy to induction and onboarding.
- Help leaders with employee relations, performance issues, and organisational structure decisions.
- Create, improve, and maintain HR policies, processes, and compliance standards.
- Support and coach managers so they can lead their teams more effectively.
- Plan and deliver learning and development activities across the business.
- Help strengthen company culture, increase engagement, and embed core values in everyday working.
Requirements
- Background as a generalist HR professional, ideally gained within an SME.
- Confidence working both strategically and in a very practical, hands-on way.
- Strong working knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice.
- Experience improving recruitment outcomes and hiring quality.
- Commercial mindset with an understanding of how people strategy affects business results.
- Ability to build trust quickly, communicate clearly, and manage sensitive matters professionally.
- Comfortable in a fast-moving environment where priorities can change quickly.
