General Practitioner

Role summary

The General Practitioner will deliver comprehensive primary medical care, assess and manage patients with acute and long-term conditions, and work closely with nursing, reception, and customer service teams to ensure smooth patient flow and appropriate preparation before consultations and procedures. The role also includes health education, documentation, infection control, and participation in emergency response and safety programs.

Key responsibilities

• Work with the assigned Registered Nurse, Customer Service Staff, and/or Reception Team to review schedules and appointments and advise whether any patient preparation is needed before consultations, procedures, treatment, or follow-up visits.
• Carry out thorough, complete, and patient-centered health assessments in line with required medical consultation, diagnosis, and treatment standards.
• Request diagnostic investigations such as X-rays, ultrasound scans, and blood tests when clinically indicated, then review, interpret, analyze, and follow up on the findings promptly according to the patient’s condition.
• Prescribe preventive and therapeutic vaccinations, including travel-related and influenza vaccines.
• Provide clinical care within Aspen Medical’s approved scope of practice, policies, procedures, and applicable legal requirements.
• Assess, manage, and treat acute as well as chronic health problems, including arranging appropriate follow-up care.
• Prescribe medicines and explain dosage, usage, and other instructions clearly to patients based on their diagnosis.
• Create a respectful and inclusive care environment that values equality and diversity and supports patients and caregivers as active participants in decision-making.
• Educate patients and families about health conditions, treatment plans, and preventive care when required.
• Reassess patients and treatment plans whenever follow-up evaluation is needed.
• Use medical equipment, devices, and instruments safely and correctly during examination, treatment, and related clinical care.
• Discuss medical concerns with patients, explain preventive measures, and develop care plans with them.
• Coordinate with other healthcare professionals to deliver coordinated and comprehensive patient care.
• Support approved health promotion initiatives with the Medical Director and/or Head of Department.
• Follow the referral pathway when patient needs are beyond the available scope of care and transfer patients to appropriate specialists, facilities, or consultants.
• Deliver safe, high-quality medical services aligned with local and international clinical standards, while explaining procedures and treatments clearly to build patient confidence and cooperation.
• Protect patients and staff by consistently following infection prevention, infection control, and safety protocols.
• Ensure patient health education is provided and properly reflected in the medical record.
• Record all clinical assessments, treatments, education, and services in physical or electronic patient files according to professional documentation standards.
• Safeguard the privacy and confidentiality of patient records.
• Escalate any health or safety concerns that may endanger patients or staff to the Medical Director.
• Promote infection prevention and control practices throughout the clinic.
• Support the Infection Control Officer and other designated personnel in carrying out and monitoring Infection Prevention and Control and Occupational Health and Safety programs.
• Continue building clinical competence through workshops, continuous in-service training, and other relevant learning activities.
• Operate within the assigned medical setting and scope of role, or as instructed by the Head of Department.
• Take part in contingency planning and response actions during accidents or incidents in the clinic or facility.
• Oversee the safe operation, upkeep, troubleshooting, and inventory management of medical equipment, instruments, and devices in coordination with the assigned Registered Nurse.
• Maintain a clean, safe working environment by following facility rules, procedures, and regulations.
• Support the Emergency Response Team during medical emergencies and evacuations, and keep BLS, PALS, and/or ACLS certification current as required.
• Carry out additional duties assigned by the Medical Director and/or Head of Department.

Requirements

• MBBS, MBChB, or an equivalent medical degree from an accredited institution.
• Completion of an internship program plus at least 2 years of clinical experience.
• Eligibility for, or current possession of, a valid UAE Medical License as a General Practitioner.
• Additional relevant certifications or licenses will be considered an advantage.
• Ability to manage the full range of medical duties in a clinical setting.
• Comfortable using medical technologies and equipment effectively.
• Proven experience supporting patient safety and quality care in a clinical environment.
• Strong collaboration skills and the ability to build positive working relationships in a multicultural team.
• Sound critical thinking and creative problem-solving ability.
• Well-developed organizational skills and a strong work ethic.
• BLS and/or ACLS certification is preferred.

The role is based in Abu Dhabi Emirate, United Arab Emirates, and is a full-time onsite position.
