Role Overview

As a Python Data Scraping Engineer on a freelance Tendem project, you will manage technically demanding scraping assignments. You will use tools such as Apify and OpenRouter provided for the project, while also applying your own methods and workflows to complete extraction and processing tasks efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

• Take ownership of full-cycle scraping and extraction workflows for challenging websites, ensuring broad coverage, accurate output, and structured data delivery.
• Use internal tools such as Apify and OpenRouter, along with custom-built workflows, to speed up collection, verification, and execution while meeting task requirements.
• Work successfully with dynamic and interactive sites, including JavaScript-driven pages and content that changes over time.
• Apply quality controls by checking extracted data, comparing sources for consistency, following formatting rules, and validating results before submission.
• Handle large-scale scraping with batching or parallel processing, track failures, and keep workflows stable when sites undergo small structural changes.

Compensation

Contributors can earn up to the equivalent of $37 per hour on this project, depending on contribution level and work pace.

Pay may differ from project to project based on scope, complexity, and the expertise required.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of relevant experience in data engineering, web scraping, automation, or software development.
• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or a similar technical discipline is considered an advantage.
• Strong Python scraping skills using tools such as BeautifulSoup, Selenium, or similar, plus experience with dynamic content, AJAX, infinite scroll, and proxy-based API access.
• Ability to extract information from complicated site structures such as nested hierarchies, archived pages, and inconsistent HTML.
• Experience in cleaning, standardizing, and checking data, with delivery of structured formats such as CSV, JSON, and Google Sheets.
• Practical use of LLMs and AI frameworks to support automation and problem-solving.
• High attention to detail and a strong focus on data accuracy.
• Independent, self-managed working style with solid troubleshooting skills.
• GitHub profile link is considered a plus.
• English at upper-intermediate level (B2) or higher is required.
