Role overview
Wellington Electricity supplies power to more than 176,000 homes and businesses across the Wellington region. The organisation is seeking a Financial Analyst who can develop robust financial models, test the assumptions behind them, and turn numbers into practical guidance for business decisions.
This is a 12-month fixed-term opportunity based in Wellington, working closely with the CFO, senior leadership, and a significant regulatory initiative known as the Customised Price Path (CPP).
What the role covers
- Taking ownership of the full forecasting cycle, including budgets, reforecasts, and long-range planning.
- Creating and maintaining integrated financial models covering profit and loss, balance sheet, and cash flow.
- Running scenario analyses and sensitivity testing to strengthen forecast accuracy.
- Converting detailed financial information into clear, decision-ready analysis.
- Providing financial input for capital expenditure business cases and investment decisions.
- Preparing organised financial outputs for the CPP regulatory submission.
- Backing capital investment decisions with strong financial analysis and well-supported recommendations.
- Turning financial data into material suitable for CPP and other regulatory submissions.
- Making sure outputs are accurate, well-structured, and robust enough for Board and regulatory review.
- Aligning forecasts with real delivery assumptions, operational risks, and business constraints.
- Spotting trends, variances, and key performance drivers early and highlighting them clearly.
- Working across systems and data sets such as SAP and Power BI to ensure information is reliable and usable.
Key projects
CPP and regulatory investment case: Work alongside Wellington Electricity’s regulatory advisers to run financial models that support the CPP, drawing on historical results and long-term forecasts to produce a defensible submission that influences future pricing and investment.
Network investment and programme performance: Support CAPEX decisions through modelling, forecasting, and performance analysis, with attention to cost, timing, and delivery risks across the network.
Why this role may suit you
- You will be building and operating the financial models the business depends on.
- You enjoy pressure-testing assumptions and challenging thinking where needed.
- You can contribute to long-term planning and investment decisions.
- You will gain insight into the value drivers behind Wellington Electricity’s operations.
- You will play an important role in a business-critical regulatory programme.
About the workplace
Wellington Electricity is described as a high-performing organisation where work is visible, ideas are appreciated, and the impact is meaningful. Its culture is built around three values: Work Together, Own It, and Speak Up.
