Environmental Services Technician

Role Overview

The Environmental Services Technician, also known as an EVS Tech or Hospital Housekeeper, helps maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary hospital setting. The role focuses on disinfecting patient rooms, operating rooms, and shared spaces to reduce infection risks, while also managing waste, replenishing supplies, caring for floors and surfaces, and handling urgent cleaning situations.

Work Schedule and Location

This is a full-time evening position with an 8-hour shift from 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM. The job is based at Riverview Regional Medical Center in Gadsden, Alabama.

Key Duties

• Disinfect patient care areas, surgical rooms, and common spaces to support infection prevention.
• Remove and dispose of medical and hazardous waste in line with hospital procedures.
• Refill items such as gloves, masks, and cleaning materials across assigned areas.
• Clean floors, restrooms, and other surfaces using approved tools, equipment, and cleaning agents.
• Respond quickly to spills, contamination events, and other urgent cleaning issues.
• Use communication devices such as phones, handheld radios, and pagers to coordinate responses.
• Keep the hospital and nearby buildings clean, which may require moving independently between facilities.

• Ability to read, understand, and communicate effectively.

Preferred Qualifications

• At least 1 year of experience or knowledge in environmental services within an acute care hospital setting.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
