About the Role
AVO Mobility is working to reshape urban transport through Avocargo, a service that makes electric cargo bikes accessible to individuals and businesses. The company’s goal is to remove the practical barriers that still keep cargo bikes from being a real substitute for cars, while offering a solution that is sustainable, convenient, and engaging. This internship is based in Berlin and supports the founding team.
The team is also committed to encouraging applicants from all backgrounds to apply, even if they do not meet every single requirement, because potential and fit can matter just as much as a perfect checklist.
Your Impact
- Partner with the CTO and operations team to connect and support the Avocargo bike fleet.
- Spot opportunities to improve the bike system, turn ideas into specifications, build prototypes, test concepts, and evaluate supplier options.
- Collect learnings and feedback that can help refine product requirements and future service offerings.
What You Need
- You are currently enrolled in an engineering program focused on embedded systems.
- You are comfortable working with common rapid-prototyping hardware such as Arduino and ESP32, including wiring, prototype PCB design, and validating ideas.
- You can write code in C or another widely used embedded programming language.
- You have some practical exposure to basic hardware communication standards such as UART and CAN.
- You have initial experience working with IoT servers, IoT protocols, and network technologies such as LoRa, GPRS, or LTE Cat-M1.
- You enjoy figuring out how things work and adapting them for your own use.
- You are open to a hands-on environment where experimentation and learning from mistakes are part of the process.
- You are able to relocate to Berlin.
- You act proactively and are able to identify issues and prioritize what should be tackled first.
- You are comfortable doing hands-on work and getting involved in practical tasks.
- You bring an agile mindset and a strong bias toward execution.
Nice-to-Have Experience
- Experience in a startup or other small, fast-moving team, including possible founding experience.
- Understanding of MVP development and the trade-offs involved in getting a first version out quickly.
- German or French language ability.
- Strong interest in mobility and/or sustainability.
Additional Notes
This is a chance to play a meaningful role in shaping a young company’s direction. The team is aiming to learn quickly and build rapidly, and the internship is expected to be a substantial part of that journey. As part of the experience, you will also get to ride electric cargo bikes frequently.
