- Create interactive dashboards with drill-down capabilities to surface important patterns and business insights.
- Partner with leaders and subject-matter experts to define business questions, shape analysis plans, identify outputs, and present findings.
- Develop and implement suitable data science methods for business problems such as classification, regression, clustering, recommendation, sentiment analysis, and neural networks.
- Explain complex technical ideas clearly and confidently to non-technical audiences.
- Work with business teams to define success metrics for model evaluation.
- Collaborate with data engineers to prepare datasets for analysis and prediction.
- Produce visualizations, reports, and presentations that communicate analytical results effectively.
- Learn new technologies and tools quickly and put them into practice.
- Help guide U-Haul’s data initiatives and contribute technical leadership where needed.
- Share expertise and help develop the team’s advanced analytics and evaluation skills.
- Manage varied work demands independently and perform well under pressure.
Additional analytical duties
- Create mathematical or simulation-based models by defining variables, constraints, alternatives, and competing objectives.
- Test and validate models, then refine them when needed.
- Work with senior leaders and decision-makers to clarify objectives and solve operational problems.
- Present modeling results and data analysis findings to management and other end users.
- Support implementation of selected solutions across the organization.
- Translate management information into well-defined operational problem statements.
- Compare possible courses of action to determine the most effective option.
- Prepare management reports that evaluate issues and recommend solutions.
- Define data needs, collect and verify information, and apply judgment and statistical testing.
- Study current operations from multiple information sources to identify component issues.
- Break systems into parts, assign values to each part, and evaluate mathematical relationships.
- Design, run, and assess experimental operational models when existing data is insufficient.
- Train staff on the use of mathematical models.
- Specify computational or analytical methods for applying models.
- Use time and cost network techniques to plan, control, and review large projects.
- Develop business procedures such as accounting systems, file systems, logistics systems, and production schedules.
Qualifications
This role calls for a master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Business Analytics, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related discipline, along with 3 years of relevant experience. Candidates should have proven hands-on experience with SQL and Python, as well as Power BI and Databricks. Experience processing and analyzing both structured and unstructured data is required.
The position also expects familiarity with common statistical and machine learning methods, plus substantial depth in at least one of those areas through industry work or academic research. Strong oral and written communication skills are important, along with comfort working through ambiguity and change. A high level of drive, confidence, commitment, energy, and flexibility is also expected.
