About the Role
Social Status is a social media management and advertising agency that mainly serves yoga studios, along with a mix of other small businesses such as cafes, spas, and boutique fitness brands. The team describes its style as playful, quick-moving, and a little bold, with a strong preference for content that feels polished and purposeful rather than bland or generic.
This opening is for a contract content creator who can work with existing assets — including photos and video files already available in shared folders — and turn them into engaging reels and carousels that feel aligned with each client’s brand. The focus is on creating work that is effective, visually cohesive, and distinctive, rather than stock-like or overproduced.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Creating reels consistently and producing carousels as part of the core role.
- Reviewing existing client content stored in Google Drive and iCloud and building reels for upcoming items in the content calendar.
- Designing Canva carousels using the content already available, along with brand guidelines, posting plans, and content requirements.
- Planning ahead by building a library of reels and carousels several months in advance, so work does not become a weekly rush.
- Taking broad creative ideas and developing them independently without needing a detailed step-by-step process for every edit.
What You Will Not Be Responsible For
- Content strategy.
- Shooting or collecting new client footage.
- Scheduling or publishing posts.
- Direct client communication or account handling.
- Long-form video work or heavy-duty editing.
- Highly elaborate, highly curated production-style content.
What We’re Looking For
- A strong visual sense, including an understanding of pacing, transitions, and how to match the right footage to the right message.
- Hands-on familiarity with yoga content, since many clients are yoga studios and it helps to understand the poses, class formats, and overall context.
- The ability to distinguish between different client brands and tailor content appropriately for each one.
- Comfort editing reels in CapCut or another fast workflow, plus experience building carousels in Canva using brand kits.
- Real-world experience creating reels, short-form video, and carousels — this role is not meant for someone starting from scratch.
- Knowledge of how to use audio for Instagram when needed.
- Comfort working with Google Drive and iCloud for importing and exporting files.
- An iPhone and Mac suitable for iCloud photo and album sharing, along with enough available storage.
Additional Information
The team already has a large volume of client content, so there is usually no need to create extensive new shot lists every month. The work is fully remote, and the goal is to take this responsibility off the client’s plate rather than add more to it. Trend awareness is still important, but the expectation is to make smart use of what already exists instead of constantly asking for brand-new footage.
This role is not suited to someone who prefers highly produced, transition-heavy edits or who spends hours on every reel or post. The preferred style is simple, clean, and effective.
Nice-to-Have
- Working knowledge of Slack for internal communication.
- An eye for trending audio and an understanding of which trends can realistically be executed using existing content.
- The ability to suggest needed shots to an account manager when a client can supply fresh footage for a specific trend.
- Copywriting ability, especially if you can write natural-sounding captions that do not feel AI-generated.
Logistics
- Contract / freelance arrangement.
- Remote work with strong overlap required with the Mountain Time Zone.
- Pay starts at CAD 25 per hour.
