Role overview

This position involves delivering a consistently high standard of cleaning across Kent Police buildings. The work covers office spaces, toilets and showers, kitchen areas, and general cleaning in cells.

The shift pattern is Monday to Friday in the early morning, with exact timings to be confirmed at interview. Additional overtime may be available on weekends and bank holidays.

Pay rates are as follows: Monday to Friday at £12.71 per hour, Saturdays at £13.77 per hour, Sundays at £14.77 per hour, and bank holidays at £19 per hour plus an additional day of annual leave.

Key duties

• Carry out cleaning tasks in line with the agreed specification and work schedules, including custody areas but excluding foul cells.
• Handle ad hoc tasks as directed by the line manager.
• Keep cleaning tools and materials in a tidy and well-maintained condition.
• Maintain confidentiality at all times due to the sensitive nature of the work.
• Follow company procedures and policies consistently.
• Use chemicals safely and in line with COSHH guidance.
• Ensure any unfinished work is properly handed over.

Skills and experience

• Strong verbal communication skills.
• Confidence working in a busy or high-pressure environment.
• Good time management and the ability to stay organised.
• Careful attention to detail, with a proactive approach to work.
• Ability to work independently as well as contribute effectively within a team.
• Previous experience working both alone and as part of a team is essential.
• Working knowledge of COSHH requirements.

Additional requirements

• Flexibility to work varied hours, including weekends and bank holidays.
• Willingness to undertake additional relevant training when required.
