About the role
Qantas is seeking a full-time, permanent Back-End Developer to join its new Product Innovation Centre in Adelaide. This position sits within a team building modern technology solutions that support the airline group’s customer experience and wider business operations.
The role is focused on designing and delivering dependable, scalable backend systems that support fast, secure and reliable digital services. You will work hands-on in code while also contributing to architectural direction, delivery quality, operational stability and security/privacy considerations.
Key responsibilities
- Shape and guide the architecture, build and delivery of software systems used by the business unit.
- Develop high-quality backend solutions that support customer-facing and internal digital services.
- Contribute to software outcomes that meet business goals, reliability targets and performance expectations.
- Help protect security and data privacy across the systems you build and maintain.
- Work closely with others in a collaborative, test-and-learn environment that values curiosity, care and accountability.
Required experience and capabilities
- At least 3 years of practical experience in a software engineering role.
- Background building backend applications that handle substantial traffic.
- Hands-on experience with backend tools and frameworks such as Java, Spring or Spring Boot, along with databases like PostgreSQL or DynamoDB.
- Working knowledge of cloud-native development on AWS, including deployment, scaling and operational considerations.
- Understanding of containerisation concepts and tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience with CI/CD workflows, ideally using GitHub Actions, plus strong version control practices with Git.
- Exposure to automated testing and production observability tools such as Splunk, Datadog or similar platforms.
- Ability to write multi-threaded and asynchronous code.
- Solid grasp of architectural principles and cloud-based solution design.
- Strong commitment to clean code, quality and continuous improvement.
- High sense of ownership and accountability for the work delivered.
- Experience with Adobe Experience Manager and Adobe Edge Delivery Services would be an advantage.
