Role overview

This is an entry-level Estimator Assistant position based in Launceston, designed for someone looking to build a long-term career in construction estimating. What you will do

• Provide administrative support and complete data entry tasks for the estimating team.
• Help prepare quotations and related job documentation.
• Research material information and suggest appropriate alternatives when needed.
• Review construction drawings, plans, and supporting documents.
• Keep records accurate and well organised, with strong attention to detail.
• Assist the team in meeting customer deadlines and service standards.
• Develop practical knowledge of construction methods, materials, and systems.

Skills and experience needed

• Some interest in, or exposure to, construction, building, or trade environments.
• Good numerical ability and comfort applying basic maths in practical situations.
• Careful, detail-focused, and well organised.
• Able to work independently while also contributing well in a team setting.
• Clear communication skills and a proactive, can-do approach.
• Competence with Microsoft Office tools, especially Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Confidence handling data, spreadsheets, and documentation.
• Ability to read construction plans or willingness to learn quickly.

Development and progression

This position is built around a clear development pathway. The intended progression is from Estimator Assistant, to Junior Estimator, then Estimator, and eventually Senior Estimator. Training may include TAFE modules such as plan reading and Excel, supplier product training, exposure to operational and trade areas, and mentoring on the job. Progression in both responsibility and pay is expected as skills grow.
